Renowned composer John Barry has died in New York of a heart attack aged 77. John was famous for his work composing music for 11 James Bond movies including: From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. His work also earned him five oscars, a BAFTA fellowship and an OBE for his services to music.
For guitarists John’s arrangement of the ‘James Bond Theme’ (composed by Monty Norman) is a must know piece whether you’re a beginner or advanced. The surf style guitar sound with its famous ”Dum Di-Di Dum Dum” rhythm part is quite possibly one of the most identifiable guitar riffs in history!

The famous ‘Bond chord’ at the end of the song is an Em(Maj9) and consists of the notes E, G, B, Eb, Gb (R, b3, 5, 7, 9). The chord has a lovely hanging effect when played in the voicing below.
