Major Pentatonic Scale

City of Bath College

City of Bath College

This post is for my students at the City of Bath College.

The Major Pentatonic Scale is a five note scale consisting of the following intervals: R 2 3 5 6

The five position system is great for learning how to use the whole fretboard when soloing. Each position begins on a note of the Major Pentatonic scale – five notes, five positions, easy!

A simple way to work out the Major Pentatonic Scale in any key is to remember the intervallic distances between each of the five notes, like this: 2nd 2nd b3rd 2nd b3rd or count the frets, like this: 2 2 3 2 3
