Black Sabbath reunion rumour quashed by Tony Iommi

Tony Iommi quashes rumours that Birmingham’s Black Sabbath are to reform.

I decided to hold fire on running with this story yesterday as the facts were not backed up by a record label or spokesperson for the band. So, this morning I am pleased to announce that I don’t have egg on my face!

The story: An article was published in the Birmingham Mail on Tuesday that started rumours circulating rapidly across the internet that Birmingham’s finest, Black Sabbath, were due to reform.

The bigs news was that the original line-up were getting back together for a tour and a new studio album that Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi had started writing back in June 2011.

Once the rumours started spreading a statement was released on Tony’s website that read:

I’m saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a Black Sabbath reunion.

At the time I was supporting the Home of Metal exhibition and was merely speculating, shooting the breeze, on something all of us get asked constantly, “Are you getting back together?”

Thanks to the internet it’s gone round the world as some sort of “official” statement on my part, absolute nonsense.  I hope he’s enjoyed his moment of glory, he won’t have another at my expense.

To my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better.
All the best, Tony

So that is that. Rumour quashed.
